The board of directors of the Global Coffee Platform (GCP), together with the GCP’s HR Committee, has appointed Annette Pensel as the organisation’s Executive Director.
Ted van der Put, chair of the GCP’s board, said: “After a rigorous search, the board concluded that Annette’s leadership and considerable experience in the coffee sector made her an outstanding candidate for the role. She has demonstrated throughout her career the ability to build long-term effective partnerships and comprehensively support coffee stakeholders in achieving positive impact on coffee farming communities. She is highly respected throughout the coffee world and I look forward to working with her in propelling the Global Coffee Platform forward.”
Ms Pensel said: “I have worked alongside some of the thousands of individuals, co-operatives, organizations, companies, associations, and governments who are working with dedication towards real sustainability in the coffee sector. I am very excited and fully committed to build on this progress, overcome fragmentation and together with the board, the membership and the Secretariat, lead the Global Coffee Platform in its mission of improving the livelihoods, ecosystems, and resilience of coffee communities around the world.”
Ms Pensel brings more than 10 years of experience in the international coffee sector and in the field of development co-operation, including corporate sustainability, public-private partnerships, voluntary standards development and capacity building. As Director, Sustainability Innovations, at the former 4C Association (and the GCP’s0 Interim Executive Director since July 2016), she was central to the many successful partnerships formed, most notably the development of Vision2020, which connected the public and private sectors and creates a common vision for the public and private sectors to work towards in producing countries, and the co-creation of the GCP together with the former Sustainable Coffee Programme (SCP).
