GeoTraceability is working with Root Capital to provide cocoa co-operatives and farmer organisations in Côte d’Ivoire with access to a digital data collection tool or Certification Management System.
This will allow them to collect data on farmers and manage the data requirements for certification labels.
“This is a new development, and one we think will have a significant impact on the co-operatives and their members,” said GeoTraceability. “We hope to see similar systems rolled out in other countries and commodities.
The Certification Management System will enable co-ops to collect data using a mobile app. It will also enable them to meet the requirements of various certification schemes simultaneously and have digitised data on their members that is accurate, reliable and regularly updated. In addition, it will give them access to important information including farm area, characteristics, farming practices, and the history of production and deliveries
This will enable co-operatives to track their members – for example by assessing loyalty level of members by identifying farmers underselling or overselling – and support better design member support programmes.
It will also save time and reduce data collection costs, monitor loans and cash advances made to members against deliveries and provide better data archiving and real-time monitoring. It will also enhance their credibility with commercial and financial partners.
