EUROPEAN OFFICIAL SEEKS LEGISLATION ON CHILD LABOUR

The President of the European Parliament has called for legislation to eradicate child labour in the supply chain of the European Union.

Fernando Morales-de la Cruz, Founder of Cafe for Change, said the move by Antonio Tajani was “a historic first step to eradicate child labour in the supply chain of Europe.

“The European Union is today the largest financial beneficiary of extreme poverty and child labour in the countries that produce coffee and cocoa. Let’s see how the European Commission acts in the coming days to defend the human rights of tens of millions of children exploited as cheap labour,” he said.
