illycaffè SpA has acquired a division of the company Euro Food Brands and will directly manage its UK distribution activity in future.
In a statement, the company said, “The UK is a strategic market for us and we feel that now is the right time to manage directly our UK distribution in order to really boost our presence there.”
The company said the move signals its intention to continue investing in the UK, despite Brexit uncertainties.
Euro Food Brands was illycaffè’s UK distributor for more than 25 years and will continue to provide operational support to the subsidiary for retail and e-commerce customers.
The Italian company, based in Trieste, acquired the business, assets and about 70 employees of Euro Food which relate solely to the distribution of illy products in the UK – all of which have been incorporated into a new company.
Operations will continue to be based in Brackmills, Northampton. Illycaffè’s intention is to hire more employees needed to manage and develop the new company.
“We evaluated this move carefully,” said Massimiliano Pogliani, CEO of illycaffè, “and decided it was time to further develop this strategic market by strengthening our focus and efforts there.
“By internalizing distribution, we will be able to directly steer the development of the illy brand and grow the relationships we have with our UK customers. We will continue investing in the UK market in order to really boost our presence there.”
